BJP carries out mega rally against Kasba gangrape case; SFI marches on College Street

Protests against the horrifying gangrape case at Kasba Law College are escalating in Kolkata, with both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) organizing rallies across the city on Wednesday. The widespread outrage highlights growing concerns over campus safety and demands for swift justice for the victim. These demonstrations underscore the political and social sensitivity surrounding the case, drawing attention from various sections of society.

The BJP Yuva Morcha, joined by prominent leaders including Suvendu Adhikari, led a protest march from Rash Behari crossing towards the South Calcutta Law College. Their rally aimed to exert pressure on authorities and demand accountability in the wake of the heinous crime. The party's consistent presence in the protests indicates their resolve to keep the issue in the public discourse and challenge the state government on law and order.

Concurrently, SFI activists took to College Street, a hub of academic institutions, to express their solidarity with the victim and demand immediate justice. Their march reflected the student community's deep concern and anger over the incident, calling for stringent measures against the perpetrators and improved security on college campuses to prevent such occurrences in the future.

In a related development, the BJP has once again approached the Calcutta High Court, alleging that the Kolkata police obstructed the construction of their protest stage. This comes despite an earlier court order that had granted permission for the stage construction for their rally. The police had initially denied permission for the rally itself, but the High Court later provided a conditional approval, asking the party to propose a new route.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP), Suvendu Adhikari, had proposed a rally route starting from near West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kolkata and culminating at the Kasba police station. However, Justice Ghosh raised questions regarding the logical basis of extending the rally to the Kasba police station, given that all three accused in the case have already been apprehended by the police. This judicial observation hints at the court's aim to ensure protests remain focused and do not unnecessarily escalate into law and order issues.
